PIMA COUNTY FAIR GROUNDS -

CONFERENCE CENTER

11300 S Houghton Rd, Tucson, AZ

2012 Competition | $3.75M | 15,000SF

The existing conference center is 5,000SF in the center of the Pima County Fair Grounds. The addition of this 15,000SF expansion would open the doors for larger events. New program spaces include a large conference hall which is able to be split into 2 spaces, a large kitchen, and a unique eastern facade responding to our desert and giving users a view of the Rincon Mountains.

Scheme A

The sawtooth east facade protects the conference room from harsh sun and minimizes heat gain with its walls. The north facing glazing is a solution which invites daylight and reduces energy costs.

Scheme B

The curved east facade is bordered by an overhang which shades the floor to ceiling glazing. This offers daylight while minimizing energy costs.

TUBAC CENTER OF THE ARTS

2011 Competition | 7,000SF

This competition design expanded the museum on 2 levels, descending into the mesquite bosque. A ramp which doubles as a gallery space brings visitors down to the lower level. A large glazed entry sets the expansion apart from the existing museum while the other architectural elements do not take away from the original building.
